Inside a cane sugar refinery: stainless processing vessels, pipework and access platforms

Our Story

Brazil Sugar Top Suppliers is a sugar export company in Brazil. We sell Brazilian cane sugar to buyers overseas, by the container load and in larger parcels, against a written specification and on standard trade terms.

Who you are dealing with

We are an export trading company, not a mill. We do not grow cane and we do not own a refinery. We source refined and raw cane sugar from Brazilian mills, contract it to the grade and the ceilings a buyer specifies, handle the export documentation, and ship FOB, CFR or CIF.

That distinction is worth stating plainly, because it decides what we are good for and what we are not. We are useful to a buyer who needs a specified grade in a workable quantity at a named port, with the paperwork a customs authority and a bank will accept. We are not the right counterparty for a buyer who needs to audit a production line, because the production line is not ours. What we can do is name the mill region, put the specification in the contract, and arrange independent inspection before loading so the cargo is verified by a third party rather than by us.

The sugar trade in Brazil is full of intermediaries who present themselves as producers. A buyer who discovers the gap himself stops replying, and he is right to. So: trading house, sourcing from mills, selling on export terms.

Where the sugar comes from

We source from mills in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Goiás — the three states at the centre of Brazilian cane production. Loading is through the Brazilian sugar ports of Santos, in São Paulo, and Paranaguá, in Paraná; the port for a given shipment is confirmed on quotation, because it follows the mill, the shipment window and the vessel or container availability.

We contract against the grade rather than against a single mill. Which mill supplies a particular parcel depends on the grade, the tonnage and the point in the crop cycle, and the specification is what the cargo is accepted against in either case. If your purchase terms require the mill to be named in the contract, say so with the enquiry and we will confirm whether that is possible for the grade and volume you need.

What we export

Six grades, each with its own published specification:

What the ICUMSA number on each of those actually measures, and which grade suits which application, is set out on the ICUMSA scale and grade chart.

Who we supply

  • Beverage bottlers and syrup houses, where colour and floc behaviour carry through into a finished drink

  • Food and confectionery manufacturers, buying refined white and crystal grades as an ingredient

  • Pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulators, using refined sugar as an excipient

  • Importers, distributors and repackers, taking 50 kg bags and 1 MT jumbo bags for onward sale

  • Refineries, distilleries and fermentation plants, taking raw grades as feedstock where the colour is removed by the buyer's own process

Demand for Brazilian refined white sugar concentrates in the Middle East, West and North Africa, South and Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. We quote on the discharge port you name.

How we contract and what ships with the goods

Minimum order quantity, Incoterms, port of loading, lead time, payment terms and packaging are confirmed on quotation, because each of them moves with the volume and the destination. We sell on FOB, CFR and CIF (Incoterms 2020), against a documentary letter of credit or documentary collection, in 50 kg bags, 1,000 kg jumbo bags or bulk, loaded in 20ft and 40ft containers. Price is quoted at enquiry against the ICE No. 11 benchmark with refined grades at a premium over it, and firm for a stated validity period; we do not publish a price per tonne, because it would be wrong within days.

Every cargo ships with a certificate of purity, an ICUMSA certificate and a certificate of analysis for the lot, a certificate of origin issued through an accredited Brazilian certifier, and quality and weight certificates. A phytosanitary certificate is issued where the destination requires one. Independent inspection by SGS or an equivalent agency is available at the buyer's option. A certificate of analysis can be provided before contracting rather than after loading.

Certifications

Food-safety and religious certifications held for a given grade are confirmed on quotation and supplied with the specification pack, named in writing before you contract.

We do not list certifications on this page that we cannot put a certificate number against. A supplier page that recites standards without evidence is the most common form of misrepresentation in this trade, and it is checkable in a minute by any buyer who asks for the certificate. Ask for them with the enquiry and they will be named.

Request a specification

Send the grade, the volume in metric tonnes and the destination port, and you get a specification and a firm quotation. Contact us — what to put in the enquiry is listed on that page.
